Not all Power BI training is equal. The wrong course wastes budget and leaves your team no more capable than before; the right one pays for itself in weeks. If you are choosing a Power BI training course in Dubai, here is how to pick one that actually sticks.
1. Match the level to your team
Be honest about where your team is. Complete beginners need an Essentials course covering data loading, cleaning, relationships and basic visuals. Analysts who already build reports need DAX and modelling. Experienced users need advanced design, performance and stakeholder skills. A course pitched at the wrong level loses people fast.
2. Insist on training on your own data
The single biggest predictor of whether training sticks is whether it uses your data. Most generic courses teach with a fictional retail dataset that looks nothing like your chart of accounts or your systems. When people learn on their own numbers, day one of training is also day one of building something useful. Ask every provider: will we work on our data, or a sample file?
3. Prioritise hands-on over slides
Power BI is a practical skill. A course that is mostly demonstration and slides will not build capability. Look for a format where participants build, break and fix things themselves, with an instructor to guide them. Rule of thumb: at least half the time should be hands-on.
4. Check who is teaching
The best trainers are practitioners, not just presenters. Someone who has built and fixed real Power BI solutions in production teaches differently — they know the traps, the shortcuts and the questions that matter. Ask about the instructor’s delivery experience, not just their certifications.
5. Look for follow-up support
People forget most of what they learn in a course within weeks unless they apply it. The best training includes some follow-up — office hours, a Q&A channel, or a review session — so questions that come up back at work get answered. Training without follow-up is a one-off event; training with it is a capability.
6. In-person or remote?
Both work. In-person suits teams that benefit from being in a room together; remote suits distributed teams and is easier to schedule. For corporate training in Dubai, either format can be delivered on your own data. Choose based on logistics, not marketing.
